How to Install Media Resource Downloader in Chrome
Install it from the Chrome Web Store, pin the icon, and click it on any page to scan. It asks for access to pages (to find media), downloads, tabs, storage and a licence check. The manual Load unpacked route is for developer builds only.
The problem
An extension that can “read all websites” sounds alarming, and rightly so. It’s reasonable to want to know what you’re agreeing to before you click Add to Chrome.
Install
- Open the Media Resource Downloader page on the Chrome Web Store.
- Click Add to Chrome, then confirm.
- Click the puzzle-piece icon in the toolbar and pin the extension.
- Open any page with pictures and click the icon. It scans straight away.
What the permissions are for
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Access to pages (content script on all sites) | Reads images, backgrounds, audio and video elements in the page you open |
| downloads | Saves the files you select |
| tabs / activeTab | Finds the tab you’re looking at |
| storage | Remembers language, theme, filters, Pro status |
| alarms | Re-checks a Pro licence every few days |
| Access to license.mzjpg.com | The licence check (the only server it contacts) |
There are no analytics, ads or accounts.
Manual install (developer builds)
If you were given the extension as a folder: go to chrome://extensions/, turn on Developer mode, click Load unpacked and choose the folder. Unpacked extensions load from that folder, so keep it in place.
First scan
Pick a gallery, press the icon, look at the three tabs (Images, Audio, Videos), tick a few items and press download. That’s the whole product.
Not working?
See the troubleshooting guide: most “nothing found” cases are a tab that needs a reload, a restricted browser page or content inside an iframe.
FAQ
Why does it need access to all websites? The scanner runs in the page you open so it can read its images, audio and video elements. It does nothing until you click the icon, and it doesn’t send page content anywhere.
What do the other permissions do? downloads saves files; storage keeps your settings; tabs finds the active tab; alarms schedules the Pro licence check; activeTab covers the current page.
Does it work in Edge, Brave or Arc? Chromium browsers can generally install Chrome Web Store extensions, but the product is built and tested for Chrome.
Do I need an account? No.
