How to Import a fastlane Screenshots Folder (or Any Pile of PNGs) into AppShots

TL;DR

Drop a folder or files into Batch Import. AppShots reads names like en-US_01.png as locale plus frame number, accepts fastlane's screenshots/<locale>/ layout, assigns images to frames and adds the languages it finds.

The problem

You have captured screenshots in twelve languages, with fastlane snapshot or by hand. Before you can design anything, each of the hundred PNGs has to be dragged into the right frame, on the right page, in the right language. It’s the dullest part of the job, and one wrong drop quietly ships a French screenshot in the German listing.

What AppShots does

Batch Import reads the file and folder names you already have:

  • en-US_01.png means locale en-US, frame 1.
  • 01.png goes to the language you’re currently editing.
  • Files without a number are assigned in order.
  • A whole screenshots/<locale>/ folder (fastlane’s layout) is understood: each locale folder becomes that language.
  • Languages it finds are added to the project automatically.

Steps

  1. Create a project for the device size you captured (see device frames).
  2. Make sure the project has at least as many pages with a device frame as you have screenshots per language.
  3. Open Batch Import, then drag in the folder, or choose images or a folder.
  4. Check the preview of what will go where. The dialog warns if the images outnumber the frames, or if there is no device frame on the canvas.
  5. Confirm. Then start on captions, backgrounds and layout.

Check before you design

  • Open two or three languages and look at the first frame. If they’re in the right order, the rest will be.
  • Names matter. en_US_1.png is not en-US_01.png. If a language is wrong, rename and re-import.
  • You can replace a single screenshot later: double-click a device frame to upload the current language’s image.

Round trip

What goes in as a fastlane folder can come out as one. See exporting a fastlane-ready ZIP.

FAQ

What file names does it understand? Names like en-US_01.png, meaning locale and frame number. A plain 01.png goes to the language you are currently editing. Files with no number are assigned in order.

Does it read fastlane’s folder layout? Yes. Drop the whole screenshots folder with its subfolders and each locale’s images are assigned to that language.

What if I have more screenshots than frames? The import tells you when the count exceeds the frames on the canvas, so you can add pages first.
