How to Export App Store Screenshots as a fastlane deliver ZIP (with Exact-Size Checks)

TL;DR

Choose the languages, format (PNG or JPEG) and whether to include fastlane config, and AppShots writes a ZIP in fastlane deliver's layout, with a Deliverfile and UPLOAD.md. Sizes are validated, and pages of mixed sizes export at their own size.

The problem

Design done, and then the upload fails. One image is a pixel off. A locale folder is misnamed. A JPEG slipped into a slot that wants PNG. You find out in App Store Connect after the third failed attempt. With 20 languages and 5 pages each, a manual folder structure is a hundred chances to get it wrong.

What the export does

  • Renders every selected language and page.
  • Writes them into screenshots/<locale>/…, the layout fastlane deliver expects.
  • Optionally adds a Deliverfile and an UPLOAD.md guide.
  • Checks each image against its exact target dimensions before writing.
  • Respects page sizes: pages of different sizes (custom projects) are exported at their own size, named after the page.
  • Forces PNG for pages that App Store Connect only accepts as PNG (the universal asset).

Steps

  1. Open Export.
  2. Choose the languages (they’re listed with how many are selected).
  3. Choose PNG or JPEG. JPEG is smaller; PNG is lossless.
  4. Tick the extra size if you want the sibling device set. See 6.5” and 6.9”.
  5. Leave Include fastlane config on if you’ll use fastlane.
  6. Export the ZIP, unzip into your fastlane directory and run fastlane deliver, following UPLOAD.md.

If you don’t use fastlane

You can skip the ZIP: upload straight to App Store Connect with Pro.

Notes

  • Export is free and unlimited, with no watermark.
  • Memory. Large sets render at full resolution and can briefly use a lot of memory.
  • Re-export freely. The project stays editable for the next release.
