How to Translate a Transcript on iPhone Privately (Premium)

TL;DR

Premium translates a finished transcript sentence by sentence, or sentences as they finalise while recording, using Apple's on-device Translation. Language packs are installed by iOS. Export the original and the translation together.

The problem

You interview someone in another language, attend a lecture abroad, or need to share notes with colleagues who speak something else. Pasting the text into a web translator uploads it, and loses the link between each sentence and its original.

Steps (Premium)

  1. Open a note with a transcript and tap Translate.
  2. Choose the target language. If the language pack isn’t installed iOS fetches it (“Preparing the language pack…”).
  3. Watch progress (“Translating N of M sentences…”). Each translated sentence appears beneath the original.
  4. Export: Share transcript with translation keeps both together with timecodes.

Live translation

On the recording screen choose a translation language before you start. Sentences are translated as they’re finalised, not while they’re still changing.

Why it’s private

The Translation framework runs on the device, using language packs managed by iOS. Your words are not sent to a translation service, and after the first download it works in airplane mode.

Limits

Machine translation is a guide, not a certified translation. Check names, numbers and technical terms.

FAQ

Is my text sent to a translation service? No. It uses Apple’s on-device Translation framework. Once the language pack is installed it works offline.

Is translation free? No. It is a Premium feature; recording and transcription are free.

Can I translate while recording? Yes. Only finalised sentences are translated, so the translated line does not keep changing.

Can I export the translation? Yes. Share the transcript with translation, with timecodes.
