How to Customize the Location Stamp (Fonts, Colors, Position)

TL;DR

Start from one of 24 styles, then move, resize and rotate the geo elements, and change fonts and colours. Aim for contrast and park the stamp away from your subject. Free covers 13 styles and 14 elements; Pro unlocks all.

The problem

A stamp that’s hard to read is worse than none. White text vanishes against snow or a bright sky. Thin text turns to mush on a busy background. And a stamp sitting on someone’s face, or on the exact thing you were trying to document, ruins a photo you can’t retake.

Because the stamp is baked in, you can’t fix any of this afterwards.

What GeoCam gives you

GeoCam treats the stamp as a design you control:

  • 24 styles to start from, from Minimal and Metadata Bar to Poster, Editorial, Passport Stamp, Polaroid and Playing Card.
  • 26 geo elements (date, time, coordinates, altitude, place, weather, analog clocks, altitude profiles, weather tiles, washi tape, live mini-maps) that you can place anywhere.
  • Drag, scale and rotate for every element.
  • Fonts, colours and size for the text.

How to do it

  1. Open the stamp editor and pick a base style closest to what you want.
  2. Remove the elements you don’t need. A stamp with five things on it is harder to read than one with two.
  3. Drag what’s left to a corner or edge away from where your subject usually is.
  4. Choose a font size you can read on a phone screen, then set the colour for contrast.
  5. Check it against a real scene (or two: a bright one and a dark one) before you rely on it.

Tips that make a real difference

  • Contrast beats style. Light text with a subtle shadow reads on most scenes. Pure white washes out over snow or sky.
  • A band beats floating text when the background changes a lot, because a band gives the text its own background.
  • Fewer fields, bigger text. On a social post the stamp is seen at thumbnail size.
  • Test both extremes. A stamp that looks great on a grey day can be invisible at midday.

When you want to keep it

Once it looks right, save it as a template so you don’t rebuild it every time.

FAQ

Can I move the stamp so it doesn’t cover my subject? Yes. Elements can be dragged, scaled and rotated to anywhere in the frame.

What can I change? Fonts, colours, size and position of the elements, and which elements show at all.

Do my changes stick? Yes. Save them as a template and they carry over to your next shots. See the template guide.

Do all styles come free? The free camera includes 13 styles and 14 geo elements. Pro unlocks every style and element.
