How to Split PDF Pages in Half on iPhone (Two-Page Spreads, Landscape Scans, Receipts)

TL;DR

In Split mode choose Horizontal or Vertical, tap Add Line and drag it into place; each part becomes its own page. Several lines on a page make several parts. Apply to All Pages repeats the split across the document.

The problem

You scanned a book on a flatbed or photographed two pages at once, so each PDF page holds two book pages side by side. Reading it on a phone is unusable. Or a long receipt sheet has four receipts on one page and you want them separate.

Steps

  1. Open the PDF and choose Split.
  2. Pick Vertical (a line down the page, to separate left from right) or Horizontal.
  3. Tap Add Line, then drag it to the gutter or the gap. It snaps near useful positions, and you feel a tick.
  4. Add more lines if you need more parts.
  5. Happy with page one? Use Apply to All Pages if the others are laid out the same.
  6. Export. Each part is a page of the new PDF, in reading order.

Tips

  • Zoom in on the gutter to place the line exactly.
  • For book spreads, split first, then crop each half to remove margins: you can’t both split and crop the same page, so export, re-import and crop the result.
  • A skewed scan won’t split cleanly with a straight line. Rotate the page first if it’s turned by 90°.

Limits

  • Split lines are straight and parallel to the page edges.
  • Pages in the same document can use different modes, so check each page before exporting.
  • Splitting creates more pages from the same source; it doesn’t shrink the file.

FAQ

Does it split one PDF into several files? No. It cuts pages into parts, and the parts are exported as pages of one new PDF.

What order do the parts come in? Vertical splits go left to right; horizontal splits go top to bottom.

Can I use more than one line? Yes. Tap Add Line again; three lines make four parts. A page can only split one way (all horizontal or all vertical).

Does it snap? Lines snap to nearby guides and give a haptic tick when they do.
