LingoAI Troubleshooting: Language Not Available, Keyboard Not Translating, Cloud Fell Back to Device

TL;DR

Most issues come from a language the engine doesn't cover, a missing one-time download for the System engine, Full Access being off for the keyboard, or the free length limit. Cloud failures retry on-device with a notice when the text is within your limits.

The problem

Translation apps fail in confusing ways: a blank result, an error that doesn’t say why, a keyboard that does nothing. Here are the common ones and what they actually mean.

”Only available in Cloud”

LingoAI Model covers 38 languages, and the System engine covers Apple’s set. Cloud covers 113. If your pair includes a Cloud-only language, the app says so. Choose Cloud (credits) or a different language.

Keyboard says it needs Full Access

Apple’s on-device translator only answers keyboards with Full Access. Settings ▸ General ▸ Keyboard ▸ Keyboards ▸ LingoAI ▸ Allow Full Access. The keyboard has no network code and stores nothing.

Keyboard says it needs a download

The System engine needs the language pair downloaded once in iOS settings. Then it works offline.

Keyboard translates only part of my message

Some apps only share the text near the cursor with keyboards. Shorter messages translate fully. Password fields always use the system keyboard.

Text too long

The free plan limits on-device translation to 2,048 characters and about 500 tokens. Options: split the text, buy Long Text (or Pro), or use Cloud, which accepts up to 30,000 characters and uses credits.

Cloud failed and the app translated on the device

If Cloud can’t be reached or fails, the app retries on-device and tells you, provided the text is within your on-device limits. If the text is too long for that, it tells you why it couldn’t.

Credits don’t show

Open Settings ▸ Cloud ▸ Credits. Balance is tied to your Apple account. Try Restore Purchases. On iOS earlier than 18.4, a free user’s balance may not survive a reinstall.

Translation is slow the first time

The on-device model is large and loads on first use. Later translations are faster.

Still stuck

Use Send Feedback in Settings, which can include screenshots, or email [email protected].

FAQ

It says a language is only available in Cloud. The on-device engines don’t cover it. Switch to Cloud (uses credits) or choose another language.

The keyboard says it needs a download. Apple’s translator needs a one-time download of the language pair in iOS settings.

The keyboard shows “needs Full Access”. Turn on Allow Full Access for LingoAI in Settings ▸ General ▸ Keyboard ▸ Keyboards ▸ LingoAI.

My text is too long. On the free plan on-device translation stops at 2,048 characters / about 500 tokens. Shorten it, unlock Long Text or Pro, or use Cloud.

Where did my credits go after reinstalling? They should return for the same Apple account. On iOS earlier than 18.4, free users who never bought Pro may lose them.
