Why MGRS GPS Is a One-Time Purchase with No Subscription
MGRS GPS is a paid app with a single one-time purchase: no subscription, no in-app purchases, no ads, no account. Your data stays on the device. The only network traffic is map tiles (Apple Maps, USGS or your own server) and place search.
The problem
A navigation tool you rely on in the field shouldn’t stop working because a subscription lapsed, shouldn’t lock features behind an upgrade, and shouldn’t be reporting your position to anyone.
What you pay for
A single purchase from the App Store. All features are included: formats, waypoints, overlays, drawing, offline maps, tracks, import/export, Watch app, widgets and Live Activities. There are no in-app purchases and no ads.
What the app does with your data
- Location is used on the device for the readout, navigation, waypoints and tracks. It is not sent anywhere.
- Waypoints, overlays, routes, shapes and tracks are stored on the device (SwiftData) and leave it only when you export or share them.
- No account, no cloud sign-in, no analytics SDKs.
What does use the network
| What | Sent to |
|---|---|
| Standard/Satellite/Hybrid map tiles | Apple |
| USGS Topo / Imagery / Shaded Relief tiles | USGS The National Map |
| Custom tiles you add | The server you chose |
| Place-name search | Apple |
| Purchase | Apple (App Store) |
The tile requests carry the map area you are viewing, as with any map. Download the area first and use airplane mode to keep even that off the network.
Permissions
- Location (When In Use) for position and navigation.
- Location (Always), only when you start recording a track so it can continue in the background.
- Camera, only for scanning waypoint QR codes.
Responsible use
An aid to navigation. Don’t use it where failure could cause death, injury or financial loss. The app shows this on first launch.
